Who I Am

I am a 23 year old mixed Mexican-Filipino who grew up in Elk Grove, California. I was introduced to graphic design in my junior year of high school and I fell in love with it immediately. I know that it’s definitely want to do with my life. There’s nothing I love to do then come up with creative solutions to problems.

My graphic design origin story is rather simple, but when I was in high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to pursue, all I knew is that I wanted to work creatively in a professional setting, so I tried out many digitally based electives, but none of them ever piqued my interest, until I took Graphic Design. I absolutely fell in love with it. But it wasn’t really something that I considered doing professionally until we watched the Helvetica documentary and he said “The life of a designer is a life of fight: fight against the ugliness.”

And that was what inspired me to pursue graphic design. Massimo’s fight against the ugliness was a fight that I want to be a part of, and that I am currently pursuing. And while my design philosophy has changed drastically since the, this is a fight that I am dedicated to.

As a maker, I value using my creativity to resolve problems.

Mostly producing for school my work generally emphasizes digital/print works.

As a maker, the aspect of working in a collaborative is the most appealing, because additional perspectives helps to streamline ideas.

Generating ideas is my strong suit to the point where I can generate way to many and get lost in my own plot, so to speak. I like to throw things at the wall and see what sticks.

The idea of working in the corporate landscape has always been the most appealing to me. And my #1 dream spot would be an designer at Disneyland, helping with the ins and outs of designing the theme park.

My current style has a place in the corporate landscape. And to that goal, I feel like I have been successful in reflecting where I would like to end up.

A lot of my work is meant/best to exist virtually and if need be, exist physically and considering the ever-growing digital landscape, companies will need more makers like me that emphasize that.
